Blue is the new black! How to suit up for a wedding without a tux!

This week, we’re celebrating well-dressed men! Cheers to them! We’re raising a glass to gentlemen who want to look sharp and well-groomed, and who can confidently pull off a stylish, eye-catching outfit, like a blue suit. So we decided to feature some dapper grooms who definitely wouldn’t blend in the background playing second fiddle to the the lady in the white dress! Take a look!

For years, maybe even decades, the preferred uniform for a groom was a black tuxedo. When I say preferred, I don’t necessarily mean that the groom preferred a tux over something else. (I’m sure many would’ve gladly exchanged vows in a pair of shorts and flip flops.) But most men realize that some occasions call for a degree of formality, one’s wedding being such an occasion. And let’s face it, whatever a man’s beloved bride-to-be prefers is often what he “prefers” as well. Funny how that works. Somewhere along the way in the ‘80s or ‘90s, the tux became the default wedding day ensemble. Occasionally, you’d see a light suit in the daytime or a practical “I will wear this again” dark suit. But the tuxedo definitely dominated. Just take a look at any wedding album from the era of “Friends” and “Seinfeld.” In addition to lots of brides sporting the Rachel haircut or a Rachel-esque updo, you’ll see lots of tuxes.

Wear now, wear later! A blue suit is a must-have!

But what about now? Men everywhere are breaking free of the ‘90s and dressing however they darn well please! Thank you, brave millennials! You’re not afraid of wearing color. Or showing that you have a sense of style. Or telling your bride (or groom!) what you prefer! Like an awesome blue suit for your wedding instead of tuxedo, which you’d rather save for those fancy red carpet events you attend.

Even though blue is a strong color, it can act as a neutral in terms of the other colors you put with it. As long as you choose another color of the same value, the blue won’t seem overpowering. Instead, it becomes your neutral base, without being a base in a beige kind of way. So we hope you like the photos this week. Maybe they’ll inspire those of you planning a wedding. Or might give you some ideas for gift giving this Christmas: Things to go with a blue suit… perhaps a cool bow tie or a covetable pair of brown shoes (that’s a topic I could devote an entire blog to!). OMG! I love this tailored blue suit so much I might start wearing menswear! It’s bold & beautiful… and I don’t mean that in a jokey soap-opera-reference kind of way (for once!). I mean it’s striking, gorgeous and confident. That’s a combo that looks fantastic on any man!

You know how I love shoes! When I meet a man, half the time he probably wants to tell me “My eyes are up here!” But how could you not look down when he’s wearing something as beautiful as this pair of derbys? Luckily, the owner of these shoes has a dapper bow tie to draw the eye upward! Happy #WeddingWednesday!

What’s not to love about this picture? It’s got all the makings of the perfect Instagram post: a handsome man, an amazing blue suit, a strong drink. And a puppy. (That also sounds like the makings of a calendar, but enough about men with puppies…!) #TBT

Dressing well is all in the details. Waistcoat? Check. Bow tie? Check. Well-tailored blue suit? Check. Boutonnière? Check… because a man shouldn’t shy away from wearing a beautiful flower. No matter how “girly” the flower may look, a boutonnière is a distinctly masculine accessory. #TGIF

Talk about a blue crush! This shade of blue looks flattering on just about everyone! All you need to pull off a look this sharp is a good tailor to make the suit fit perfectly. Show up to a party looking this handsome and swooning will ensue!
