The Super Bowl is next weekend and I’m SUPER excited! I just can’t wait to see which team will win, who’s going to score the touchdowns, what the point spread will be and… Yeah right! You know me! The only spread I’m concerned about on Super Bowl Sunday is the kind that goes on crackers. Football and me? Not so much. Football party? Now that’s an event I’m a big fan of! I may not care that much about the game, but it’s definitely a good excuse to throw a party, Party Goddess style!
Even if it’s a football party, you can still make it an event that shows off your “A” game style. So puh-lease, just say no to plastic tablecloths and red cups! You’re not at a college tailgate. Whatever food you serve — whether it’s party favorites or something exotic — elevate the presentation by serving it on elegant platters. As for drinks, use real glasses people! I know, I know, who wants to be stuck doing dishes late on Sunday night? But that’s what dishwashers are for! Or hire some help to clean throughout the party. That’s what broke teenagers are for!
Make it a happy hour, no matter who’s winning!
Speaking of drinks, you know I’m a huge fan of the DIY bar station where guests can mix & pour their own libations. It gives them a place to congregate in between the stellar ads and half-time show. Or during the ads, since some of your guests WILL want to watch the game. I know, weird, huh? (Sometimes I’m very surprised by who likes football and who doesn’t!) So put a little effort into this corner of your party and you’ll be glad you did!
This week, we shared photos from a beer garden party. But you can take inspiration for your football party with some of the food and decorations, like the cutest-ever “turf” squares we used as coasters. They added a fun pop of color to all the monochrome-colored bar fare being served: chips, nuts popcorn, beer. If you stick with easy, go-to party food, hosting a football party for the Super Bowl doesn’t have to be a big deal. Pull out your nicer serving pieces, get a little creative with the drinks and you’ll have yourself a SUPER classy event! It’ll be a home run! (Wait, wrong sport! I knew that! Hee, hee!)
Where to find The Party Goddess! ideas galore?
If you’ve been one of my loyal blog followers, you know that we publish these image roundups weekly. We feature a particular event for a particular client so you can go deep on the particular theme. If you know what’s up, skip this part. New visitors, take a look below…
In case you missed it, here’s what we’re doing, mentioned in the first blog. (And if you already know what’s going on, skip to the first photo!) Every day we’re posting event photos & inspiration to my Instagram page to give you ideas for your own events. And, of course, to encourage you to hire yours truly, event coordinator extraordinaire, for your next soirée! In terms of format, we’re trying to capitalize on the whole hashtag calendar world and take advantage of #WeddingWednesday (#WW) and #ThrowbackThursday (#TBT) by posting wedding photos and cool stuff we’ve done on Wednesdays and on Thursdays, harkening back to a past client’s event, be it a celebrity, or just one of us tastemakers.
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Monday:
Beer and football go together like, ummm… beer and football. What more do I need to say? Certain occasions call for beer and even most “I don’t drink beer” people will enjoy a cold one, especially if it’s served in a nice pilsner glass instead of a red cup! So don’t be shy about serving it at your next football party, which is going to be the last one for a long time. #SuperBowlSunday! How do you like these turf coasters? Crazy cute, right?
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Tuesday:
A football party almost requires chips, nuts, popcorn, anything salty that can be washed down with beer and other drinks. Even though these snacks are basically bar food, you can elevate their status (literally!) by serving them in elegant pedestal bowls and on stylish plates. The snacks may be regular, but that doesn’t mean your party has to look regular!
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Wednesday:
Having a football party? Don’t forget the tequila! You can set up a drink station for guests to pour their own shots and concoct their own drinks. If you’re having a larger affair, you might want to hire a bartender to do the mixing! In fact, why not have a tequila bar at your wedding? Happy #WeddingWednesday!
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Thursday:
How’s this for a mannequin challenge? If you happen to have a spare mannequin around that you’re not using — what? doesn’t everyone have one of those? — put a football jersey on it and make it a silly decorative focal point at your football party. Don’t ask me what kind of crazy party this mannequin was from, but it made for some pretty awesome photos! Happy #TBT!
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Friday:
“Is that your beer or mine? Oops, I drank half your glass, so maybe I should just finish it!” Avoid all that germ sharing and drink confusion at your upcoming football party with reusable stickers for your glasses. You can find a pretty good assortment on Amazon. This one gets the party started with a funny phrase that guests get to finish! Depending what people write, you may need to make it a no-selfie zone!
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Saturday:
Turn plain old popcorn into something a little more fancy by putting it in a pretty pedestal bowl like this one! It’s an easy way to make your football party a notch nicer than a tailgate. Another trick? Serve popcorn drizzled in chocolate. It’s sweet, it’s salty, it’s addictive. Yum!
