Ahhh, December… ’tis the month we party lovers and party givers relish. It’s the most wonderful time of the year! But for some, okay maybe most, it can also be anxiety inducing. SO many social obligations to fit in! Not to mention all the roasting of chestnuts, decking the halls and cocktailing to be done! Sometimes it can all make the season feel less than wonderful. Wouldn’t it be great if holiday stress wasn’t a thing? Well, take a look at our suggestions for December! Celebrating, or at least giving a nod to some of the goofy alternate holidays on the calendar might make you more jolly and less of a grinch! How wonderful is that?
This week had a day to call someone you hadn’t talked to in a long time. That’s right, CALL, as in talking on the telephone, not texting or Facebook. How did that fall on a Monday instead of a #ThrowbackThursday? Then there was a day for violins and another for monkeys. And then we had several treats to pay tribute to. It’s the perfect time of year for anything sweet, which is always my go-to method to reduce holiday stress!
The calendar is full of unusual and funny holidays, in addition to the really big ones we always celebrate. Wondering what other holidays are coming up? You can find more bizarre, wacky and random holidays here!
No more holiday stress! Be calm and put your party dress on!
I hope you enjoy the whimsical side of December! Whether you’re hosting a fabulous party, or going to one — or ideally doing BOTH! — this time of year is all about celebration! So linger under the mistletoe, have an extra glass of bubbly, call your special friends, watch a cute monkey video, eat a cupcake! I promise you’ll feel merry and bright!
If you’ve been one of my loyal blog followers, you know that we publish these image roundups weekly. We feature a particular event for a particular client (well, actually this week, we’ve sidetracked a bit) so you can go deep on the particular theme. If you know what’s up, skip this part. New visitors, take a look below…
In case you missed it, here’s what we’re doing, mentioned in the first blog. (And if you already know what’s going on, skip to the first photo!) Every day we’re posting event photos & inspiration to my Instagram page to give you ideas for your own events. And, of course, to encourage you to hire yours truly, event coordinator extraordinaire, for your next soirée! In terms of format, we’re trying to capitalize on the whole hashtag calendar world and take advantage of #WeddingWednesday (#WW) and #ThrowbackThursday (#TBT) by posting wedding photos and cool stuff we’ve done on Wednesdays and on Thursdays, harkening back to a past client’s event, be it a celebrity, or just one of us tastemakers.
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Monday:
Today is Ding-a-Ling Day. It started as an annual day to call friends you hadn’t talked to in a long time. Even with Facebook, texting and Instagram, I see no reason for that to change! We all need to reach out and touch someone special once in a while, old-school style. Feel free to update the practice with FaceTime so your friends can see how great you look! However you do it, the talking is the important thing. And if you do it with an orange wig, you’ll feel like a ding-a-ling too! Nothin’ wrong with that!
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Tuesday:
It’s the Christmas countdown! Are you feeling the holiday stress yet? Maybe you just need a break from 24/7 Christmas carols. How about listening to some classical music for Violin Day? Jazz and bluegrass work too! Download a playlist, turn on the radio or stream music through your computer. Listen to whatever relaxes or inspires you!
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Wednesday:
Happy Monkey Day! Time to take a YouTube break and watch some videos of gorillas and chimps (and hey, while you’re on YouTube, take a gander at The Party Goddess! videos). Or browse for cute photos of monkeys, like the one we found here! (And I know an orangutan isn’t technically a monkey, but still, what a great photo!) If you have a Curious George book, today’s a good day to give it a read!
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Thursday:
If you’ve been craving a little sugar, indulge your sweet tooth. Today is Lemon Cupcake Day! Enjoy a simple cupcake to remind you of your childhood birthday parties #TBT. Good cupcakes are fun to make if you have time, and they aren’t that hard to find if you don’t. This delectable-looking one is from Polkatots in Pasadena (Check them out!). It’s delightful, delicious, de-lovely! That sounds like a song I know… another reason for #TBT!
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Friday:
I can’t believe there’s a holiday for things covered in chocolate! Yes, really! Today is Chocolate Covered Anything Day! Donuts, cupcakes, nuts, ice cream, cake, strawberries… I’m just getting started with this list! Since we’re in the middle of the holiday season, you shouldn’t have any trouble finding something covered in chocolate today. Enjoy!
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Saturday:
Yeah for Saturday! The perfect day for pancakes or waffles. And who says you can only have them for breakfast? Sometimes they’re just what you need for lunch or a very late night snack. Today is Maple Syrup Day! So that means no fake syrup, only the real deal maple syrup will do. Besides, it tastes sooo much better! Try this pear and maple yogurt cup (+ 29 other meals for Christmas morning) from Brit + Co and Real Simple.
