Words Matter. I Don’t Care What Jesse, Tiger or Heidi Say!

Part of the fun of watching people create cringe inducing moments that show up on TMZ, Access Hollywood or E! is that you know they didn’t follow the script that was so carefully planned out by their handlers.  Somewhere, John Gosselin’s PR people and  lawyers are wanting to hit something…or somebody. Don’t get me wrong, spontaneity is important. Spontaneity shows personality and can be quite endearing. Spontaneity also shows that your are human. However, it can also cause the downfall of a lot of hard work.   Thankfully, my spontaneous outbursts play in my favor since everyone knows I can be crazy and over the top sometimes, but that I am quite serious about my business.  I would never do anything to tarnish the reputation I have worked so hard to gain.  When it comes to The Party Goddess!, I want to be the one to control the message. The good, the great and the fabulous. Okay, there is occasionally, very rarely…  J the less than good thrown in there too, but I admit to it, embrace it and learn from it. Most of all, I am always moving forward. The point is, whether you have been in business for twenty years, just starting out or somewhere in between, you have to control the conversation.  Not only should your Tweets and Facebook entries brand your biz, but so should your website content, business card colors, the way you dress and of course your marketing materials.    And speaking of those said materials, do you have them at the ready? Your collateral accessories should be eye catching and drop dead gorgeous. What about your bios, the “about us” and “philosophy” page on your .com, fact sheets, one sheets and pitch letters? Are they clear, concise, fresh, innovative and up to date? Are those articles that you’ve been wanting to submit to producers of a radio program that you love or the editors at ‘O’, going to get you noticed?  All of these things absolutely help you land clients.  Words do matter… a lot!   While I spend hours a week writing everything from blog entries to articles, I am happy to have found Steve Miller. He is my go to guy when I need something written that I don’t have the time to write myself. He is a published writer of lifestyle/design books, (one of which I collaborated on, “Extreme Entertaining Made Simple”), as well as a cross cultural marketing consultant who assists all sized companies with the “ins and outs” and “do’s and don’ts” of conducting business in Asia. He’s worked with that part of the world for years. Just because something works well in America, doesn’t mean that your amazing must have product or well intentioned marketing campaign will have the same impact in say Tokyo or Bangkok.  I can almost guarantee you that it won’t.  Steve brings a fresh perspective to every project and is a great collaborator. Definitely give him a ring and tell him Marley, The Party Goddess! sent you.
