What the funk is up with ‘talk-texting?’

We are starting a new installment for our Friday blog post. WTF?, or What the Funk?, will be highlighting those weird quirks of contemporary society that make you do a double take, as you wonder if you are the only sane one noticing the ironic nature of the modern world.

Today’s WTF? topic is “talk-texting.” The newest models of phones that were gifted for the holidays contain a technologically advance feature called ‘voice recognition.’ While it might be useful to bark “call mom” instead of dialing out the number, this voice recognition is also used for texting. Instead of typing out that text you can now speak into your phone, which will then transcribe your text, and then you push just one button, ‘send.’

Why don’t you just call  the person at that point? Really? Are we that afraid of human interaction that we need to transcribe our verbal interactions? We can only imagine two people texting back and forth through this voice recognition system. We beg you to just pick up the phone and remember what it is like to have actual human interaction. We know its scary, but its for your own good.

Has anybody else noticed society building a technological box around themselves?
