Making More “Me” Time Helps Mind, Body & Soul!

Making More “Me” Time Helps Mind, Body & Soul!

We all know how easy it is to get caught up in the stress of everyday life. That’s why it’s absolutely CRUCIAL to take care of yourself and make some “me” time in order to avoid running yourself into the ground. Which is what I did (#stupid) last year! Having gotten sick and having to be hospitalized during the holidays inspired me to actually practice what I preach and do some soul searching myself! Normally, I unwind with a libation or two, but I’ve discovered that if you want a REAL wellness day, you have to forego the booze (can you believe I’m saying that?!) and use other techniques to soothe your mind, body & soul.

Time Out For Adults

Today we invite you to take a break! Join us on our journey by getting chummy with your soul again and hosting a “wellness day party!” This can take place anywhere—at home, in an open space or studio, your backyard, the neighborhood park—wherever you think you’ll be able to find tranquility for your mind, body & soul without added noise and people running in and out! Put on some comfortable clothing and have your besties join you.

Peace, People!

Here are some tips on how to escape this crazy place we call the real world and breathe for a day. Gather your pals and set the mood with these 3 tips:

Mind – Without calming your mind, there’s really no hope for calming anything. Begin with a 30-minute meditation exercise. There are plenty of meditation tapes out there and you probably have a few faves. I’m a fan of Deepak Chopra’s “Gift of Love II: Oceans of Ecstasy.” If you’re not into meditation through music and voice then go with nature sounds. Calming Rain offers a nature soundtrack developed by a certified music therapist (bona fides is good, right?!).

Body – After you’ve centered yourself and eliminated all anxious thoughts, focus on your body. Yoga is designed to promote well-being on every level—mind, body & soul— but if you’ve been out of practice and letting the hustle and bustle of life get in the way, today’s your day to journey down a more relaxing path. Try restorative moves. DoYogaWithMe is a great site that offers hundreds of programs for free. Alternately, if you have a pool or jacuzzi, take a dip and then let the warm waves and bubbles leave you feeling loosy goosy!

Soul – Light some candles and let everyone in the group share the things they’re grateful for. Or sit together and have each person write down gratitudes privately. In a world where the media tends to focus on violence, it’s easy to become troubled and negative. Reflecting on the good in your world and all you’re grateful for helps lighten the spirit and restore a happy heart.

I’m going to hold you to all this because there’s nothing more important than taking care of yourself! Namaste!
