Finding Your Own Entertainment Style

So you’re planning another one of your fabulous parties or hotly anticipated events and you’re trying to come up with the theme, menu, décor, and cover all of the details you’re known for pulling off flawlessly.

Whether you’re a do-it-yourself entertainer or engage the help of a skilled event planner, two things are for sure. You’re known for putting on a party with style.  And you hate to disappoint.

If you aspire to be known as a consummate entertainer, let me let you in on a little secret of my celebrity clients.  Every time you entertain, the event should align with your personal brand and exude your signature style.

I don’t care if you’re a celebrity, an entrepreneur, a professional, or a stay-at-home mom. We all have a personal brand and a signature style, whether we recognize it or not. The people in our lives associate us with a certain way we make them feel, a certain essence, a certain flair.

Either embrace it or improve upon it, but don’t ignore it. Work it.  Finding and developing your own personal style enhances the experience you’re able to create for your guests. People love consistency. Imagine guests eagerly anticipating your event because they know what to expect.

This doesn’t mean your events will become boring and predictable. It simply means people will look forward to your events because they know how it will make them feel.  Think of your favorite designer, artist, or movie director. You can spot their style right away, and you anticipate their next work.  That’s how you want people to think of your parties.

As with anything in your life, you will best shine if your entertaining style is authentic to who you are. For clues, consider your style of dress, your home furnishings, and other aesthetics you enjoy. Think of your favorite music, movies, and the places you love to travel.  Think of color pallets that please you most, places you like to spend time – gardens, mountains, beaches, etc. Do you identify with retro, modern, vintage, or contemporary? Go deep. Get intimate with your likes and dislikes when you attend events hosted by others.

Take what you learn about yourself and infuse it into your own personal entertainment style. In no time, you’ll be known for creating wonderful experiences for your guests.

Again, the idea isn’t to create the same party over and over. The idea is to create a consistent feeling that makes guests feel welcomed by a sense of your signature style.

How would you describe your personal style?
