Last year, Wedding Planner Magazine asked top wedding and event planners around the world about their favorite business books. Each contributor could then ask the book’s author one question. I was super honored and totally excited to learn that Events Specialist Monique Hogan of Redondo Beach, California named But Are You Making Any Money? her favorite! I published the book in 2011 as a witty, wacky (this is ME we’re talking about!) step-by-step guide for increasing profitability of your small business. It contains wisdom from the school of hard knocks (mine!) and how early failures ultimately lead to my success!
Remember how I said the magazine contributors could ask the book authors one question? This is what Hogan asked yours truly:
Have you ever considered being a stand-up comedian? You are hella funny!
Here was my response:
In the dark recesses of my brain, I think it would be great to just walk onto some fabulous stage, without prepared material (because why would I need to prepare when stuff just comes out of my mouth so naturally?? #dumbidea) and just rock it. Then the nightmare continues, and I am on that stage, and exactly no one is laughing at anything, and I realize in the days of social media’s ability to blast everything everywhere, I have just made an even bigger mess of my life than I had before. So I guess the answer to: ‘Have you ever considered being a stand up comedian?’ is: ‘Sort of, in my nightmares!?’ Oh, how I love that you asked! I needed that today!!!
Why am I sharing this with you now? Because maybe, ya know, something happens (as it does with me) and you’re reminded (like an anvil hitting your head) how important it is to bring humor to everything in life—work, business, relationships… pretty much all of it! From laughter (and a lot of liquor!) comes happiness. That’s today’s lesson, y’all be careful out there now!!
