Details! Details! Where to get started? (Besides Instagram?)
You’re getting married! Congratulations! If you got engaged in the last month or two, welcome to the club! Not that I’m in that club. (Well, I was, but two husbands later, I’m single! Anyone looking for a hot Party Goddess!?) I’m just welcoming you to your new relationship status. So, what’s next? Let’s talk about some of the high-priority items on your wedding planning to-do list. Change Facebook status? Check. Call girlfriends? Check. Make YouTube announcement? Check. Post ring pic on Instagram? Check. (You’re not a Kardashian so it’s probably safe to do that.) Start Pinterest vision board. Check.
Ok, you’ve told the whole world your big news, now what? It’s time to get wedding planning, that’s what! It doesn’t matter what size wedding you’re having, there’s a lot to do! You get one shot at your special day and I’m sure you want to do it right. Once you have an idea of the overall look and feel you want, it’ll be easier to proceed. Choosing your venue is a good start. Do you want something formal or funky? Indoors or out? Large or intimate? Fabulous or fabulous? You get the idea. The style of venue doesn’t automatically dictate the style of the reception, but it does act as a canvas of sorts for you to add to.
With wedding planning, it’s all about the details dahling!
So once you’ve decided on the big stuff, it’s time to think about the details that will make your wedding memorable and will add a personal, thoughtful touch for your guests. This week, we shared some photos from a beautiful wedding where the bride and groom gave a lot of thought to the details. A dramatic archway entrance. Gold-painted pine cones as place card holders. Warm wraps for the ladies when it got chilly. Delicate bouquets contrasting with bold flower arrangements. The setting was a rustically charming venue, but the décor and overall feel were quite formal. At first glance, you’d think the location they’d chosen would automatically lend itself to a laid-back affair with a bride in cowboy boots. However, thanks to some thoughtful wedding planning, all the details — decorations, place settings, attire, flowers, menu, cake — were just the opposite. And it all worked beautifully!

In case you missed it, here’s what we’re doing, mentioned in the first blog. (And if you already know what’s going on, skip to the first photo!) Every day we’re posting event photos & inspiration to my Instagram page to give you ideas for your own events. And, of course, to encourage you to hire yours truly, wedding coordinator extraordinaire, for your next soirée! In terms of format, we’re trying to capitalize on the whole hashtag calendar world and take advantage of #WeddingWednesday (#WW) and #ThrowbackThursday (#TBT) by posting wedding photos and cool stuff we’ve done on Wednesdays and on Thursdays, harkening back to a past client’s event, be it a celebrity, or just one of us tastemakers.
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Monday:
Get a load of this arch! It’s amazing, right? Gorgeous blooms on a background of brambles framed the couple during their ceremony and provided a backdrop for beautiful photos. Ivory curtains and elegant chandeliers completed the dramatic look that set the stage for everything that was beyond. It was wedding planning perfection to get all the details in place. And what an impact it made!
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Tuesday:
Beautiful white orchids are perfect for a bridal bouquet! When it came to her flowers, this bride opted for simple and elegant. Love it!
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Wednesday:
Whatever happened to the days when men wore boutonnieres just to be a little extra fancy, or just because? I guess they went the way of ladies wearing corsets just to be a little extra skinny, or just because! Anyway, I love a boutonniere on a nice suit… not to mention a nice suit on a handsome man! How do you like this one? It’s made from a gorgeous single orchid to match his bride’s bouquet. How sweet is that? (Happy #WeddingWednesday!)
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Thursday:
For a woodsy venue, pine cones are the perfect place card holders! They can all sit a little differently and still do the job just right. Spray paint them with gold and now you’ve gone from rustic to glam. When you’re wedding planning, these simple details can make quite a statement! #TBT
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Friday:
Forget the blushing bride! What about bridesmaids in blush? This delicate shade of pale pink was so flattering on all the ladies at this wedding. And look at the amazing bouquet that went with it! The flowers almost look fake, but of course they weren’t! If you’re wedding planning right now, don’t worry about having all the flowers matchy-matchy. You can combine different blooms and looks, and when you put it all together, it will look fabulous (dahling)!
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Saturday:
Talk about wedding planning gone right! This is a Pinterest-worthy idea! The bride & groom knew it would get chilly as the evening progressed. So rather than have their guests leave early (who’d want that to happen!) or stay and freeze (also not ideal), they had some lovely wraps and lap blankets on hand. And they were all displayed with a charming framed sign… and more of those glam gold pine cones we talked about on Thursday.
