Valentine’s Day – Plans?

A lot of people think that New Year’s Eve is for amateurs, well I kind of think that V-Day is for amateurs in terms of the whole fancy restaurant reservation thing. Now, if you’re dating someone and not in the full blown, long term relationship, I get it. In fact, I would be livid if a boyfriend didn’t have the complete situation planned. But once you’re past that point, I think you should think about what you really want to do.

Today I took an art class at my favorite little local place called Zinnia and we made “love boxes.” I know it sounds horribly queer but I made this fabulous deal out of a cigar box – sophisticated, hip and yet full of love. (You should note that this successful outcome is a miracle because I was livid at my husband most of the way during the class.) I put all kinds of special notes on it to the light of my life (repeat today until I am convinced. Plus, I can put all of this info because he doesn’t read my blog) and had a ball doing it. He will be thrillllled. Of course we’re trying to figure out where to go for dinner and quite frankly, I couldn’t care less. Not because I don’t love tasty, fancy dinners but because it’s going to be so needlessly crowded and so, well, forced.

Now what? I’ve decided that I’m going to deliver my very special box full of my husband’s favorite red velvet cupcakes from Violet’s and then we’re going to do something really romantic. We’re going to go for cheeseburgers. Can you imagine having a wait at the counter of Pie ‘n Burger on Valentine’s Day? Of course not, but how great will that be. No crowds, he’ll be happy, I’ll be beside myself and we can even split chili cheese fries for good measure. Then, we can head out to a fabulous dinner on another night that’s not quite so expected. So cheers to homemade gifts, lots of sugar and paying cash for dinner at the counter.
