The Last of the New Year’s Trivia

Promise, this is the end but it’s still interesting!

• Many people follow New Year’s superstitions, believing these will set
the pattern for the rest of the year. Some popular superstitions
include: wearing new clothes, avoiding crying, not letting money leave
the house, eating black eyed peas, opening all of the doors of the home
to let out the old year, dancing in the open air, not washing dishes,
and making noise to scare away evil spirits.
• Kissing loved ones at midnight signifies not only the celebration,
but also to ensure that affections and ties will continue through the
year.
• Famous New Year’s Eve babies include: Henri Matisse, Anthony Hopkins,
Andy Summers, Ben Kingsley, John Denver , Donna Summer, George
Thorogood, Bebe Neuwirth, Val Kilmer and Joey McIntyre.
• Robert Burns wrote the Scottish poem, “Auld Lang Syne” in 1788 which
is commonly sung at the stroke of midnight. This translates to “long,
long ago” or “days gone by.”
• A common image of New Year’s Eve celebration is the incarnation of
Father Time – the old year represented by an old bearded man wearing a
sash across his chest with the previous year printed on it. This Father
Time hands over his responsibilities to the Baby New Year – the
personification of New Year represented by a baby wearing a sash with
the new year printed on it.

Now go get off your tush and work out! :lalala:
