* Picture Perfect. Find a picture of some of your closest family and friends and showcase them throughout the house. Maybe it’s from a vacation or a birthday party, whatever it is, you’ll be sure to feel thankful each time you pass by. These pictures double as a place card as well, should they be coming over for some festivities: instead of a name, there’s a face at each setting!
* Wacky Wreaths. Be original. Try using things around the house you have no use for and just end up in the junk drawer: buttons, pennies, wallpaper swatches, pistachio shells, fortune cookie fortunes, etc… It will give your guests something to ooh and ahh about while waiting for that fabulous home-cooked meal.
* Be crafty. Part of the children’s table could include using the colorful leaves to create an arts and crafts project. The kids’ table doesn’t have to be the boring one because even the adults will get involved! Make a “thankful” Thanksgiving tree out of construction paper and leaves and write down what everyone is grateful for.
* Go all out – for cheap! Hang fun vinyl wall decals. They are temporary, customizable, cheaper than buying artwork, and a lot of fun! Use the chalkboard kind so the kids can also “write on the walls” as part of the décor as well.
* Fragrant centerpieces. Herbs are not only for the garden. A fun way to stimulate the senses and your guest’s conversation is to place potted herbs on the table as a centerpiece. Thyme, Rosemary and Sage are
traditionally what you flavor a turkey with, and because they smell so great on their own, they make wonderful decor pieces as well. Have your guests take home a potted herb when the party is finished or use them to flavor your next meal with. These are the gifts that keep on giving!
