Too cool for Yule! Not your standard Christmas decorations!

There’s nothing wrong with Christmases of long, long ago. And nothing wrong with decorations that are just as old and treasured. I have a ton of them! But sometimes it’s fun to do something different and unexpected. So this week, I’m showing off a few cool Christmas ideas that don’t involve any nutcrackers, gingerbread houses or Santas. Again, nothing wrong with those! But for this week, it’s time to step away from the plaid and put down the little Christmas village houses. Because these aren’t your grandma’s decorations… though I’m sure she’d approve if she’s as stylish as you are!

Oh what fun! Cool Christmas ideas that turn ho-hum into ho, ho, ho!

We put together some whimsical, festive displays that might appeal to your modern taste and appreciation for the unconventional, starting with a canine Christmas station. It’s so cute you’ll want to have one even if you don’t have a dog! Maybe it’ll make you want a dog for Christmas. Then we have a cupcake stand doubling as a decorative terrarium, or is it more like a snow globe? There are so many cool Christmas ideas, so many ways to be creative that don’t require the same old, same old traditional holiday motifs. And I love plaid! I just prefer to see it on a blanket. Or a dog!

Don’t forget Fido this Christmas! Whether you have a Dr. Seuss–style dog party — à la Go, Dog. Go! — or you just let your friends bring their pooches to your next brunch, this dog refreshment station is adorable. And don’t forget the crystal bowls — nothing but the best for your furry friends!

Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Tuesday:

Don’t bother baking cupcakes! Save the cupcake stand for a cool centerpiece like this one. A layer of fake snow makes anything you put in there look wintery and festive. Maybe put it on the dessert table if that makes you feel better about not baking.

Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Wednesday:

It seems we just couldn’t get enough of antlers this year. They were everywhere! So here they are incorporated into a Christmas table display. And they’re gold! Add in a sequin star and a delicate sprig of holly and your table is all set for a minimalist vibe. Go you with your artsy self!

Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Thursday:

I love all these snowflakes and lanterns! Imagine how cool this tree will look at night when it’s all lit up. The snowflakes have just enough glitter to reflect the candlelight. Would you call this look white hot? Or icy cool? #TBT

Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Friday:

It’s an upside down snow globe! In a giant brandy glass! How fun is this? And so easy to create. All you need is some fake snow and a few decorations to tuck inside. This would look perfect at the bar, especially if you’re serving a signature brandy cocktail. Or any cocktail for that matter! #TGIF

Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Saturday:

When you’re cleaning up for your next party, don’t put the wheelbarrow away! Drape some fake snow and make a little bed for those penguins you’ve been wondering what to do with. If you live where it actually snows, I guess you can just leave it out overnight and have the real thing. But here, fake snow it is. Ahh, winter in SoCal!
