More Mozza

My publicist recently told me about this new restaurant, Pizzeria Mozza, on North Highland in L.A. I knew it would be good because not only does this guy like to eat, he is picky. However, enter the fact that I recently had a baby and have been doing my darndest to lose that extra tire and avoid the carbs. However, I wasn’t too worried because scoring a table at Mozza would take me plenty of time as it is quite the hot spot. Imagine my chagrin when a girlfriend who loves to chow as much as I do suggested it for a lunch date and had actually nabbed a reservation.

Thrilled as I was to see her and try Mozza, I knew I would be sucked into a feast of pizza and the rest of things in life I so adore. Ah, the sacrifices a blogger will make for her readers.

The place was so good it hurt. Fabulously painted walls (important to a color girl like me), paper place mats that were all different depending on where you sat (mine had a recipe for Margherita Pizza scribbled on it) and utensils that arrived in a bag just like breadsticks. Argh, the creativity was painful, painful only because I didn’t come up with it. But what a sheer pleasure that lunch was.

In order to maximize our tasting options, we shared the Pane bianco with olio nuovo and “Nancy’s” chopped salad. I was jonesing for the Long cooked broccoli but deferred to my friend on this one. Then the excitement began as we split the Funghi misti with fontina, taleggio and thyme. Sweet heavens, I can’t even tell you why it was so good or what they put on or in those mushrooms but the whole thing was like a symphony delivered to my soul. Shocker, we finished with a dessert of ice cream and marshmallow sauce topped with candied peanuts. Needless to say my carb counting stopped around the second piece of pizza but the whole thing was worth every last minute on the treadmill.
