TIPS:
* Serve the graduate’s favorite fare. On a hot summer’s day, especially after sitting out at a graduation ceremony, guests are going to want cool, light treats. So serve the graduate’s favorite chilled food and light snacks at the graduation party.
* Let the world and the tables revolve around the graduate! For the centerpieces, use items that were important to the graduate during school. Did they play varsity soccer? Write for the school newspaper? Place a soccer ball and the most recent issue of the school paper in the middle of the tables. This will tell your guests a bit more about the graduate and make him or her feel like the center of attention.
* Guests will like seeing the graduate’s likeness. Use pictures of the graduate throughout their life to decorate all areas of the party. A recent picture of the grad on the cake, a picture next to the cake at their 1st birthday, and maybe even M&M’s with their picture on it!
* Encourage people to mix by serving a mixed drink! There will likely be plenty of people at the party from all of the graduate’s social circles. Encourage guests to mingle by serving cocktails. Something cold and fruity would be especially summery.
* Show the graduate some love. The graduate will love the party, but for something he or she will never forget, have guests write their favorite memories of the graduate on small squares of paper and deposit them in a bowl. Toward the end of the party have one person read all of the memories and watch as the graduate tries to figure out who wrote them!
