TIPS:
* Don’t just send a card! Put cute small trinkets, like a mini tequila bottle, sombrero, and cactus in a box filled with excelsior with a note inviting guests to your fiesta.
* They last longer! Instead of real flowers, use succulent plants and Mexican paper flowers as centerpieces to decorate your table. Fill glass jars with layers of dried black beans, orange, yellow and green lentils for added punch.
* Get the kids involved with homemade piñatas! Blow up a balloon, and cover it in newspaper strips dipped in water and glue. Repeat until the balloon is completely covered. Let it dry for at least one day before the kids paint it in bright colors and stuff with candy and treats! (Note: make cover the balloons ahead of time and save the decorating for party day).
* Tequila! What Mexican fiesta isn’t complete without yummy margaritas? Create interesting concoctions using passion fruit juice and agave nectar. Don’t forget to make pitchers in advance. Adorn the bebidas with a lime and line the rims with salt (dye it a color). Jazz it up by putting them in neon margaritas glasses. Feeling really daring? Have a blind tequila tasting and select a house favorite.
* Make your own Mexican dessert! Cut fun shapes out of flower tortillas using cookie cutters. Butter the tortilla cutouts and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar, bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees and enjoy!
I’m curious, have you tried the tequila or the margarita yourself? If so, how is it?
