Planning a party but pushed for space? By thinking outside the box, there are ways for converting existing spaces in your home to throw a fabulous party despite the size of your pad! Yes, even if you live in a 600 sq. ft. studio in Brooklyn! Don’t go through the mess of rearranging your home. Just get creative! I used the entertainment center (below) outdoors to arrange props, decor, and candy at a party I hosted recently.
Take a look around and use what you’ve got! A bookshelf, a desk… even drawers are all great landing spots to use at your soiree! Here, I used one of my kids’ dressers to hold spooky props for a Halloween Party!
Use Bookshelves And Drawers As Food & Beverage Stations
My kitchen at home flows into the family room where I have a built in desk and a large bookcase. The bookshelf is great for beverage napkins and garnishes and the desk itself works perfectly for a self-serve bar or buffet.
Or, you can use your dining table as a self-serve buffet, as I did here for a Dia de los Muertos party.
I’ve even seen people remove items from a chest of drawers and use the drawers to display desserts.
Remember, be unconventional! Your home is filled with little nooks and spots you can use for beverages, hors d’oeuvres, and desserts. When thinking about converting existing spaces, make sure to put the bar (even if it’s all non-alcoholic beverages!) away from the main entrance to prevent bottlenecks.
Believe me, people will congregate around the bar no matter WHERE it is! If pushed for space, I put it in the coldest and furthest away spot so that it’s not going to block entrances, exits, or access to food. With just a little bit of shuffling (and hiding the day-to-day items under the bed!) you’ll easily be able to repurpose your existing furniture and fixtures and bring the party to life!
