Cinnamon Buttered Rum

It’s cold and dreary today in LA (very weird because it’s been about 1,000 degrees.) Perhaps because I can’t drink and it’s cold and mostly because I can’t drink, this recipe for Cinnamon Buttered Rum from Mixologist (love that title!) Michael Rubenstone at LA’s Sunset Tower ( www.sunsettowerhotel.com ) sounds so crazily appealing. (Small aside on the Sunset Tower Hotel – love this quote from Truman Capote in a letter to a friend on December 8, 1947: “I am living in a very posh establishment, The Sunset Tower, which, or so the local gentry tell me, is where every scandal that ever happened, happened.”) Digression over. See this great recipe below and please have a sip (or a gulp) for me.

1/4 cup dark rum

1 Dash of nutmeg

Lemon wedge

Hot apple cider

Combine first four ingredients in an Irish coffee glass and top off with steaming hot cider. Garnish with a cinnamon stick. Drop in a sliver of butter (it’s traditional but optional. Sorry guys, this sounds gross to me so I’d omit it.)
