A few of my favorite things!
I love variety and enjoy switching things up when it comes to decorating, especially during the holidays. I love it so much that I change my decorations according to who’s visiting me! Have you ever given me an ornament? Well expect to see it front and center when you come to my Christmas party! Do you especially like cute little birds? Well, I know that about you, so that’s why I’ll have an entire aviary display in the dining room and a partridge in a pear tree–themed tree set up when you pop over for drinks on Friday afternoon. Thanks to my extensive labeling and inventory system for organizing my decorations and ornaments, throwing something like this together is a super cinch!
OMG… NOT!!! I’m not a total nutcracker! Nor did I suddenly morph into a clone of Martha Stewart/Peter Walsh/HGTV home organization master (with staff to help me). Though at times I wish that were possible, just for a day or two! But since it’s not, and I’m just regular old me, I will suffer through the entire season with mostly the same stuff on display. Oh, the drudgery! Not really, of course. I love my stuff! And every year, I change it up to go for a different look. I’ve been sharing some of it with you on this blog over the last few weeks. Most everything I have is easily moved, so even with the same decorations, I can rearrange pretty quickly for a change of scenery, or so all my fave pieces get a turn being admired while I have my morning coffee.
Holiday table decorations you can DIY!
This week, we’re sharing ideas for holiday table decorations that really are a super cinch to put together — and I mean a cinch for normal people, not just Stepford home org robot types. Some might call for a session with a can of spray paint. But as you’ll see in the instructions, you can have yourself a merry little happy hour first, which is bound to make it more fun! Others might require you to hunt for pine cones, whether on a hike or online… or maybe in your neighbor’s yard. Although it might be best to ask before helping yourself. Or go in the dark of night so no one sees you. Wait, don’t do that! Better to just ask! And a few other ideas might just give you inspiration for trying something different. Hope you like — and happy decorating!

If you’ve been one of my loyal blog followers, you know that we publish these image roundups weekly. We feature a particular event for a particular client so you can go deep on the particular theme. If you know what’s up, skip this part. New visitors, take a look below…
In case you missed it, here’s what we’re doing, mentioned in the first blog. (And if you already know what’s going on, skip to the first photo!) Every day we’re posting event photos & inspiration to my Instagram page to give you ideas for your own events. And, of course, to encourage you to hire yours truly, one of the top event planners in Los Angeles, for your next soirée! In terms of format, we’re trying to capitalize on the whole hashtag calendar world and take advantage of #WeddingWednesday (#WW) and #ThrowbackThursday (#TBT) by posting wedding photos and cool stuff we’ve done on Wednesdays and on Thursdays, harkening back to a past client’s event, be it a celebrity, or just one of us tastemakers.
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Monday:
A little red & green go a long way, even in December! Feel free to take a break from the traditional color duo and go blue! I love how these blue & silver decorations look on this mirrored table. It reminds me that it’s winter somewhere. Just not where I live!
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Tuesday:
Bring the outdoors, umm, outdoors. Ok, if it’s cold where you live, bring the outdoors in. Here in L.A., we’re still trying to avoid the midday December sun! But when it cools down at night, we take our entertaining outside. To add some seasonal flair, we’ve got these amazing pine cones, and a little dusting of fake snow!
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Wednesday:
Instructions for making sparkly holiday table decorations. 1. Pour drinks for friends and you. 2. Repeat till bottles are empty. (Note: This project not suitable for amateurs.) 3. Save bottles and spray with glitter paint. 4. Artfully arrange on tray with holiday greenery. 5. Open new bottle to toast your craftiness!
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Thursday:
Got coral? Or a cool candleholder that looks like coral, but you really have no idea what it’s actually made of? (Fauxral?) No need to put it away for the month just because it’s lacking candy canes. A couple of strategically placed decorations — even candy canes, if you must — will transform it into a cool coral/fauxral seasonal display! #TBT
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Friday:
It’s pinecone season, which is almost as fun as ice cream cone season! Put one of these beauties on each plate, scatter a few more in the middle of the table, along with some big lanterns, candles and greenery and you’ll look like you’re hosting a rustic Christmas-in-the-woods dinner. Or a Pottery Barn photo shoot. #TGIF
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Saturday:
It’s time for mistletoe and holly! Or any red berry you can get your hands on. I’m not really sure what these berries are, but they sure are pretty! Did you know the next line to that song is “Tasty pheasants, Christmas presents?” Sometimes it’s best not to analyze holiday song lyrics too much!
