I want candy! I want candy! Have a wacky, wonky Halloween!

Who’s having a party this Halloween? Hopefully you! If you’re feeling a little wacky, maybe a lot nostalgic, why not go full on fantasy and throw a Willy Wonka party? Everyone loves candy at Halloween! Pretty sure the calories don’t count that day, or maybe it’s that I can only count so high. I mean, who wants to attempt triple-digit addition while trying to chew their Laffy Taffy and read the joke on the wrapper? Well anyway… Halloween and Willy Wonka are a match made in party-planning heaven! It combines chocolate & candy with candy & chocolate. What’s not to love?!! #sweetestpartyever!

Get your sugar fix with a Willy Wonka party!

To decorate for this shin dig, you get to toss all your usual go-tos — pretty flowers, grownup color palette, elegant centerpieces — and do whatever strikes your fancy. Forget understated, more is more! The whimsier the better! (Yes, I just made up my own Wonka word, but that’s what you’re supposed to do for a Willy Wonka party!) Giant chocolate bars and enormous lollipops? Why not?! Colorful toadstools, gumdrops and gobstoppers? Heck yeah! Don’t forget lickable wallpaper and edible paper. And all this is before you even get to the bar! Your drink du jour could be Wonka’s Fizzy Lifting Drink (see Thursday’s photo). Remember that one? They all started floating after they drank it. Do with that what you will — you’ve got endless possibilities for a bar menu full of funny Wonka references.

So what about your playlist? Probably best if I don’t get started! However, I’ll give a few suggestions, and will stop before I drive us all crazy. So there’s the entire Charlie and the Chocolate Factory musical soundtrack, where you’ll get to hear Sammy Davis, Jr. singing “The Candy Man.” And then you can move into prime ’80s listening with songs like “I Want Candy,” “Sweet Dreams,” “Sweet Emotion,” “Sweetest Thing,” … I could go on. So many tunes, so many different decades, so little time!

I’m having a Wonkavision! What is that? I have no idea! But it seems like good inspiration for a wacky Willy Wonka centerpiece display. Think Candyland on steroids meets chocolate lovers gone wild! Now there’s a vision!

“Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker.” Hey, I didn’t say that! I’m just quoting Mr. Wonka himself! Help your guests find the libation station pronto with a fun sign like this one. You can concoct your own Fizzy Lifting Drink: a shot of sweet, a shot of fizzy, and a shot (or 2) of vodka. Then… watch the mischief ensue! #TBT
