You better, because Event Coordinator was just named the 5th most stressful job of 2017! Only jobs that pose physical danger are considered more daunting! Really??? Apparently the people making this list don’t realize I’ve been known to string lights from a tree or get up on a ladder! Try that in 4-inch heels! That’s some danger for ya! Still think you’d like to become an event planner?
A Business Like No Other
It really does take nerves of steel to be in this position! You also need a high degree of organization. And A LOT of creativity! I didn’t come into this business by any conventional means. What began as a career in the restaurant business segued into this crazy line of work along the way. And the only reason I got into the restaurant business was because I had my eyes on a dashing chef! Sure, I could make a mean souffle. But the real reason I took a job as a pastry chef my junior year in college was because of a boy! Who eventually became my husband!
Sometimes You Fall Into Things (Like Love!)
The restaurant I ran with my first husband (yes, I said “first”) drew a pretty robust catering business. As we started catering bigger and bigger parties, clients asked if we could do events. Plus the decor. And the entertainment. Along with everything else that goes into producing an event! It was baptism by fire, and I learned a lot through trial and error along the way. Before I knew it, I had become an event planner!
But you probably want to know the “official” way to become an event planner. Thankfully, our friends at Eventbrite, have put together a handy roadmap to guide you toward a successful career as my competition! Enjoy!
How do you feel about the CSEP organization?
I have only heard good things about the CSEP organization, but I haven’t worked with them specifically on anything. Let me know what you dig up though and thanks for posting on the blog!
