Light Up Your Life, Debby Boone Style
With all of the drama and shootings in the world, no wonder people have been kind of in a funky mood lately. Let’s fix that! Awhile ago, these soy candle makers from Chicago,Wax & Wick, found their way to me. Right off the bat, I loved the name – snark alert, all you need to know: Wax. And. Wick. Done. Thank you. Kind of like all you need to hear is “Ralph Lauren” or “Cher.” Enough said. You get it.
Poured in swank and heavy (in a good way), white and black glass jars, the packaging is really cool. Let’s face it, there are a LOT of candles out there so you want yours to have some presence and I love the retro typeface. The entire aesthetic reads super expensive even though they’re really not. (Please no unnecessary notes about “Do you know how many hungry children you can feed with $18?” I get it, but right now we’re focusing on first world problems in this particular blog and $18-$25 is a steal!) At $18-$25 dollars a candle, these babies seriously step to the front of the line as my next go-to hostess gift. Way better than wine. Oh, and I haven’t mentioned the best part of the look yet—the double wood wick. Not like two wicks. Like, it’s just a very thick, somehow kind of “broad” wick that just enchants me and I swear is extra cool as candlelight. It’s bigger or something.
Wax Poetic
The wide, natural wood wick puts traditional white fabric wicks to shame. Better still, it burns up to twice as long as conventional candles, which means you get more burn for your buck. Made from 100% soy, Wax & Wick candles are touted as being cleaner to breathe because they don’t contain petroleum products that most commercial candles do. I have not done my own personal EPA study on them, but I will tell you, they seem pretty freaking clean. (Disclaimer: When the Wax & Wick peeps reached out, they gave me a batch for free to try, but in true: put-my-money-where-my-mouth-is-style, we’ve gone on to place real retail orders for us and our friends!)
A Flame To Fall For
I struck a match to this bad boy on a grey, rain soaked day, one I am desperately hoping to see again soon after all of these California wildfires. I like that these soy candles are a way to bring the fireplace to you when you can’t be sitting in front of a real one. Like when you’re at yo desk, Mama.
In terms of aromatic qualities, here’s the net/net… freaking AMAZING! The essential oil blends are really unique, (dare I say, hypnotic) and fill the room almost immediately upon lighting, but not in that dreaded, cheesy, cloying way.
With super scents like Fireside, Mulled Cider, Oakmoss, and Whiskey, get ready to be transported to places significantly more exotic than your living room. If I could have, like, 900 of them right now, I would, so go get yours.
P.S. These are ESPECIALLY my go to candles for men. Because the look is really clean, it’s the perfect candle when you want to give a guy’s guy something sweet, that’s well, not SWEET!
