I recently attended my industry convention which happened to be here in L.A. I met so many really, really nice people, among them two girls from Florida. They attended a class I taught about making money in the event industry and I got to hang around with them for part of their stay. They were so upbeat, friendly, positive, cheerful and all around just a joy to associate with.
We all ran into eachother many times during the week. Because these two Floridians are newer to the field than I am, they had questions that I could sometimes help them out with. Why did I do it? Aren’t I giving away trade secrets that I’ve worked a long time to figure out? Yes. But they were nice.
I encountered lots of other interesting people who had questions for me or wanted some advice. I noticed that the nicer they were, the more info they got. I just felt like helping them out. Call it karma, I don’t know but it’s a fact. We have a joke at the office about our high maintenance surcharge. B–chy clients have to pay more. If you’re mean to my assistant, I’m less likely to cut you a break on decor because I’m not in the mood; the sour attitude bugs me. Be sweet and I want to give you the world. I’m happier working with people I really like, so they get lower prices. So be nice, it might just save you a few bucks.
