I had a blast! like always being on the Martha Stewart Living Radio show! If you weren’t lucky enough to listen in on the show…here are the tips once again!
TIPS:
* Fragrant centerpieces. Herbs are not only for the garden. A fun way to stimulate the senses and your guest’s conversation is to place potted herbs on the table as a centerpiece. Thyme, Rosemary and Sage are traditionally what you flavor a turkey with, and because they smell so great on their own, they make wonderful decor pieces as well. Have your guests take home a potted herb when the party is finished or use them to flavor your next meal with. These are the gifts that keep on giving.
* Add some color. Fill vases with kumquats, acorns or walnuts in their shells, spray painted gold! Top with flowers in complementary shades. And while you’ve got the spray paint out, spray your uncut pumpkins (real or fake) that are leftover from Halloween, a brilliant gold or copper color and tuck them in between votives and candles on the main table or around the house.
* Kid-friendly crafts. Part of the children’s table can include colorful leaves to create an arts and crafts project, and it’s a perfect way to get the adults involved too! Make a “thankful” Thanksgiving tree out of construction paper and leaves and write down what everyone is grateful for.
* Spell the love. Create unique and memorable place cards for your guests by using seasonally inspired “Thank You/Gratitude” cards. The hostess (or dinner guests) should jot down on the card why they are thankful for that person. Place the card in its envelope (the envelope can also be seasonally decorated if you enjoy creating paper crafts) and with a calligraphy pen (color coordinated with the predominate color from your holiday decorating palette or gold), write their name and place the gratitude card at their assigned seat.
* Go all out – for cheap! Hang fun vinyl wall decals. They are temporary, customizable, cheaper than buying artwork, and a lot of fun! Use the chalkboard kind so the kids can also “write on the walls” as part of the décor as well.
