Why I Love High Gas Prices

I am sure the love mail will flow in on this one, but I am thrilled with high gas prices and I think you should too as long as you are not on welfare. Why? Because if you work, you know how much time we all spend on the road. In L.A., the traffic is positively ridiculous as it is in a ton of other major cities in America. Because I work a lot and need to drive all over creation (thus the reference to welfare individuals – if you don’t work, you probably have some time on your hands) in lots of traffic, I want the gas prices to hit $5/gallon – yesterday. This is a pure matter of applying basic economic principles.

Hugh? Here’s the deal. Ever since gas hit $4/gallon and stayed there, the traffic on the L.A. freeways really eased up. Without traffic, I can get to the west side in 30 minutes (this typically happens only in the middle of the night, normally it takes 1.5 hours.) The lower the gas prices, the more yo yos on the road; the consistently higher gas prices have cleared the roads. So, if you figure that higher gas prices mean less traffic, then I can get places faster and get more done (and in my opinion save gas because I’m not out idling on the freeway with all of those toxic emissions). Eco lovers be thrilled. The more time I save, the more money I can make, pay the extra high gas prices and still end up on top. So bring it on. For those of you who still want to be smart, check out GasBuddy.com. It’s a great national resource to find the lowest gas prices in your area (just enter your zip code.)
