Event Coordinator Shares What You Need To Be A Great Hostess
What a freaking week this has been! Do you have have those times in life that are usually slow, but instead you feel like you backed into a fan? That’s kind of what happened to me. This time last Sunday I flew to Austin where I had a ball speaking and trying out some new fab spots, then got home, and kind of never stopped.
Well, evidently, I stopped long enough to eat plenty of pancakes, but that’s in yesterday’s post.
Here is our event photos and inspiration weekly roundup. Tell us what you think of this event coordinator who-always-tries-to-be-prepared take on what you need to be a great hostess! This whole idea came up when we were going to shoot a segment for German TV’s, Bunte, about what every celebrity hostess needs. Celeb or not, we all need some pretty practical things. These have been my life savers and kind of what I’ve been obsessed with lately, so I figured I’d share.
If you know what’s up, skip this part, newbies, please continue…
In case you missed it, here’s what we’re doing, mentioned in the first blog (and if you already know what’s going on, skip to the first photo!): “Every afternoon we’re posting event photos & inspiration to my Instagram page to give you ideas for your own events, and of course, encourage you to hire yours truly, fabulous event planner in California for your next soiree! In terms of format, we’re trying to capitalize on the whole hashtag calendar world and take advantage of #WeddingWednesday (#WW) and #ThrowbackThursday (#TBT) by posting wedding photos and cool stuff we’ve done on Wednesdays and on Thursdays, harkening back to a past client’s event, be it a celebrity, or just one of us tastemakers.

I’m a HUGE sucker for many great sites and one of them I stumbled upon on Flipboard, my other obsession. (Fricker, I just checked and I’ve curated 11,055 articles at the time of this posting. That is FRIGHTING.) Flipboard is like Pinterest for articles if you haven’t addicted yourself yet.
Anyhooo……I forgot why I mentioned Flipboard, and it’s because I follow this great mag, Brit+Co, that features tons of gold – or at least I seem to SEE tons of gold. Now I’m even more gold obsessed than before. Meet my gold lacquer charges that EVERYTHING looks good on. This whole melange featured great beverage stuff. How can you go wrong with individual bottles of Pop Champagne, Straws, these fun reusable chilling cubes, and my absolute fav, the milk frother from IKEA. LOVE. Has saved me a ton in Starbucks runs because I can froth at home.
Next image is all about the great salt and pepper. Do you remember that post on The Profit Goddess! that was all about my naturopath and just staying in bed? She got me on the Himalayan Pink Salt and grinding it up makes a huge difference. So does fresh pepper. Really, feels regal just those two things. Enjoy the slate board and of course my colorful pink chalk pens that go everywhere. Most of the stuff from these two photos were sourced at World Market. #NextObsession. #LoveThem.
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Tuesday:
Not that I don’t love the whole DIY gig of putting washi tape on your disposables, but being able to just buy them outright freaking rocked. AND, if you get some unexpected guests, it’s nice to be all tricked out. These came from Paper Source. Remember I mentioned how handy those chalk markers are? They rock. Just get tons because you can write right on the table like I did, or the slate board, or on windows, or mirrors. #Genius.
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Wednesday:
Happy #WeddingWednesday (#WW): This hostess gig could be PERFECT if you’re playing wedding coordinator and giving a shower for a friend. Give the new bride all of the goodies you collected to throw the party and have everyone’s gift be their favorite “must have.” Look at the whole gourmet combo of s&p, AMAZING olive oil and balsamic, cannot be without that, stuffed olives to make great martinis or just snack on and a cool grinder. Done. #Important. For the segment, we wanted to keep things simple so just had some potted herbs that would do double duty. Muddle those puppies for later in your drinks or toss them on the salad, or just feel very healthy and look at them. And then maybe dry them if you kind of forget to do the whole watering things.
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Thursday:
#ThrowbackThursday (#TBT). #TBT to me means old school and I love these Wrist Notes to keep every hostess sane, or remind you to take out the turkey, or whatever. Another hostess must have? A SENSE OF HUMOR! Thus the, “It’s Not a Hangover, It’s Wine Flu” naps.
Favorite Event Photos and Inspiration – Friday:
You MUST have great, thick, delicious white napkins. They can be dressed up, or down for the holidays, brunch or anything in between. We kept ours cool with a black river rock and sprig of that peppermint from our little decor shot above.
Event Photos and Inspiration – Plus, tell me what else you want to see on the blog!:
So, how’d we do and what’s we miss? We’ve got a follow up post planned that features our other must haves, but let me know in the comments what you can’t live without!
xoxo M

Awesome idea! I love the chalkboard trend lately – but it’d be nice to have an easier way to use it since chalk sticks can get really messy. Thanks for sharing!
Have you tried the chalk markers? They aren’t messy and super easy! I have a weird thing anyway with how real chalk feels in my hands anyway. Ewww! Thanks for the comment. xx
