Okay, here’s the deal… I grew up in Los Angeles. That means I have VERY strong opinions about tacos and burritos. I know Texans will claim to have better Mexican cuisine but I will have to disagree. Emphatically! NOBODY does better Mexican food than SoCal! There, I’ve said it! (And, I’m not changing my mind.) For us, it’s National Taco Day pretty much every week!
Seriously, it’s almost a joke when I travel (you know I travel a lot!) and I’ll be someplace like New York (which, don’t get me wrong, is fabulous!) and someone will say, “There’s this amazing taco place that opened up…” and I’ll secretly be doing the world’s biggest eye roll. All of this is to say, I love tacos, I love burritos, I love Mexican food! And LA makes the best. I don’t need National Taco Day to tell me I should celebrate tacos. I already do!
In fact, I love setting up a taco bar for casual entertaining. It’s always a hit with guests because it gives people the opportunity to “build their own” with lots of different fixings. Here’s an example of a taco bar I did earlier this year.
I like doing a couple of different types of meat and then really go all out on the toppings. Onions, tomatoes, pickled carrots, avocado, cabbage, lettuce, cilantro, grilled corn, different hot peppers, a few selections of cheese, and then lots of different sauces and salsas. It’s all about the options!
Since it’s National Taco Day, we thought we’d share a whole bunch of taco recipes (curated by the Huffington Post) so that you’d have those ever-glorious OPTIONS to try at home today! The list includes fancy complicated ones as well as easy-to-make recipes, all worthy of the fanfare tacos are deserving of today. Arriba! Check out The Best Taco Recipes on the Planet.
