A friend recently emailed me about ideas for hosting a mutual friend’s baby shower. Her questions were great and so I thought I would post them and give you a quick a dirty run through on planning a baby shower. This is obviously not a list of A-Z planning of a shower, but more of a frequently asked questions kind of thing…Note, I answer in CAPS to make reading easier, I’m not shouting at you.
Q: I am not sure how they are usually paid for?
TYPICALLY THE HOSTESSES DIVIDE UP THE COSTS OR DUTIES.
Q: Where to hold it?
SOMEBODY’S HOUSE, A RESTAURANT, A COUNTRY CLUB. THERE’S NO SET RULE.
Q: What type of food?
- DEPENDS ON THE TIME. I LOVE STUFF ON THE EARLIER SIDE (LIKE 11:30 BECAUSE THEN IT DOESN’T TAKE YOUR WHOLE DAY. SORRY, I’M CYNICAL BUT AFTER YOU’VE BEEN TO 10,000 BABY SHOWERS YOU GET WISE.)
- SOME KIND OF FUN SALAD WORKS GREAT.
- FOR DESSERT, WHATEVER IS MAMA’S FAVORITE OR CUPCAKES ARE ALWAYS FUN, ALBEIT KIND OF OVERDONE.
- YOU KNOW CHICKS, SOMETHING LIGHT.

- BY THE WAY, A FUN GIFT IDEA IS TO PASS OUT ALL OF THE GIFTS AND HAVE EVERYONE GO AROUND AND OPEN ONE. KEEPS PEOPLE INVOLVED AND KEEPS THE SHOWER MOVING.
- YOU MIGHT EVEN PUT ON THE INVITE 11-1:30 OR 11:30-2 SO PEOPLE KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT.
- DEPENDING ON YOUR BUDGET, YOU COULD ALSO DO MINI SPA SERVICES. DON’T KNOW HOW RICH YOU GIRLS ARE FEELING THESE DAYS.
