A Few Words About Coffee

Something that is often overlooked when entertaining is coffee. Whether you’re planning a small dinner party in your home or an event for 300, don’t underestimate the impact of a really good cup of coffee.

Let’s face it, you’ve got lots to worry about before the guests arrive: tidying up the powder room, putting your lipstick on, making sure the first round of drinks is ready to roll. At The Party Goddess, coffee was something that we didn’t always give a lot of thought. I mean sure, we served it, we just never made it a big deal. That has changed. This recent shift in department “policy” might be as a result of one of our TPG girls trying to reduce her caffeine intake and drinking more and more decaf. Without the caffeine buzz as the only perk, it seemed even more important that the coffee actually TASTED good.

A friend of mine from way back has a great store near where I live, called Jones Coffee Roasters. When he moved across the way from our office, I made an effort to give him some business. (Strangely, this coincided with my desire to cut back on caffeine. Yes, that TPG staffer was me.) The coffee is amazing and yes, they ship all over the place. You can email them questions or just place an order online or over the phone ( www.thebestcoffee.com ).

Now that you’ve got a source for a fabulous cup, there are no excuses not to plan ahead. If you want to keep it simple, just offer decaf after a dinner party, most guests will be fine. While you can certainly serve decaf to someone who asks for regular, you should never do it the other way around. The last thing you want to be responsible for is keeping your guests up all night!
