You all know I’m a serious partier and that means taking parties seriously. (Duh! I’m an event planner!) So, I’ve had the handyman at my house this week installing new fixtures for my annual Cinco de Mayo party! And it’s been somewhat of a fiasco… but that’s how serious I am! I’ll post pics of the soiree sometime after I recover from the festivities. In case you’re having your own Cinco de Mayo fiesta, here are some fun ideas for food and drinks…
Margarita Lime Cake
This is something I made a while back when I bought a giant bag of limes to make margaritas and then decided I didn’t want to deal with the stupid blender cuz it’s way too much trouble! But then I was left with citrus to use up and tequila to boot. Can’t let THAT go to waste, soooo I made a Boozy Margarita Lime Cake with a recipe from Pastry Affair instead. It’s heaven and buzz-inducing and you don’t even have to salt the rim.
Mezcal Cocktail: Green Smoke
We’ve been featuring Kimo Sabe Mezcal cocktails this week in honor of Cinco de Mayo, from friends and artisan mezcal producers Jim and Ashley Walsh. Here’s the recipe for Green Smoke, a margarita variation that has cucumber juice in it!
Festive Decor Looks Like A Cow!
This was from my Dia de Los Muertos party, but we love this cow featuring traditional Mexican-style artwork, which would absolutely work for Cinco de Mayo also! Yeah, I know there’s a skeleton in the picture. But you just might feel like that after a night of partying, so it works!
Nothing Says Cinco De Mayo Like A Fake Cactus!
Look, I don’t recommend real cacti where drunk people will be stumbling about, cuz it’s #ouch #dangerous! But this cute painted cardboard one requires zero-art skills and really sets the Mexicali theme in motion, plus it provides a cool prop for selfie-taking!
Stay safe, amigos! Enjoy!
