Lifetime’s The Balancing Act Show Notes

I filmed four back to back segments for Lifetime’s The Balancing Act on how to celebrate the big game day in four unique ways! Boy am I am drained, but it was totally worth it. I hope you all had a chance to view the show. If you missed out don’t worry because it airs two more times on Jan 29th and Feb 4th – no excuses! :) Be sure to check your local listing for times.

Turn Your Ultimate Big Game Day (Football) Celebration Into A Carnival!

LH Hayward – Camellia Beans – Mardi Gras/Saints Theme

TIPS:

* Black and Gold. Coordinate your table with your favorite team’s colors! Since you’ll be serving some amazing homemade chili, deck out that ugly crock-pot with a cute boa.  Fun, festive and fierce!

* Duo. Just like beer and wings, hot-dogs and chili are a perfect pair. Serve “pigs-in-a-blanket” (mini hot-dogs) over dry black beans and skewers in a rectangular dish, to resemble that of a football field. Use gold pipe cleaners for goal posts and get ready to score!

Turn Your Ultimate Big Game Day (Football) Celebration Into A Mexican Fiesta!

Don Miguel – Appetizers – Mexican Theme

TIPS:

* Timing is everything. So your guests aren’t stuffed by the time the game starts, make sure you space out the food: 1st quarter serve tacos, half-time serve taquitos and for after the game, have some empanadas hot and ready to serve!

* Personalize. Label your food with cute football cutouts. Cut out of a small brown paper lunch bag, write the name of the food with a marker and tape to a football stake or toothpick. Arrange food in a large
football shaped platter and stick into food according to labels.

* Spice it up! Top off your tasty appetizers by serving them with hot sauce and creative dips. Stray away from your boring bowls and dishes. Instead, carve out some red, green and yellow peppers and fill them with your hot sauce, lemons and salsa.

* Tequila! No Mexican fiesta is complete without an authentic Mexican margarita! Create a zesty margarita drink out of Tequila, Triple Sec and fresh squeezed limejuice. Don’t forget to make pitchers in advance. Jazz it up by serving it in an agua fresca jar and garnish with slices of lime.

* Place settings. Personalize place settings with a colorful napkin and a mini cactus plant. You can purchase these at your local 99 cent store and customize with each persons name. It doubles as a name card and a take-home gift.

Turn Your Ultimate Big Game Day (Football) Celebration Into An American Tradition!

KFC – Grilled Wings – All-American Traditional Football Theme

TIPS:

* Touchdown! Every All-American football party should show that competitive spirit. Make a colorful centerpiece representing your favorite team using a small helmet, mini-footballs, pom-poms and team jerseys. Display over a piece of sod (or green fur!) to resemble a football field.

* Paint the town! Use a large bucket to display all cooking equipment and condiments: tongs, BBQ brush, mustard, ketchup, salt and pepper. For all serving related equipment, use a small bucket to hold utensils and napkins for those yummy wings!

* Get your head in the game!  Use a football helmet to serve your wings! Line the inside of the helmet with clear plastic wrap to keep clean to display an assortment of wings. Your fighting spirit will blow your guests away!

* Dip and dine. What wings don’t need a dip? Hollow out a baked potato and use it as a bowl! Score points with your guests by filling the baked potatoes with fresh, healthy dips. With the leftover potato filling, make some mean mashed potatoes to serve with that chicken.

* A match made in Heaven. Beer and wings. Keep those brews chilled over ice in a large beer bucket. Try to find one with your team’s logo at your local sporting goods store.

* Open sesame. Keep the big game day fresh in your guests’ mind by sending them off with a convenient bottle opener. Get customized openers displaying each team’s logo so your friends can choose their teams. Place around each napkin and remind them to keep it poppin’ on their way out!

Turn Your Ultimate Big Game Day (Football) Celebration Into A Guilt Free Day!

Toufayan Bakery – Wraps – Guilt Free/Hassle Free Cuisine

TIPS:

* Laces up. Keep it simple and place your wraps on a bed of wheatgrass (If you can’t find wheatgrass, try turf or Astro-turf, which you can buy at your local home and garden store). You don’t need an extravagant centerpiece, stick to something that’s quick, easy and hassle-free. To spice it up a bit, add some lemons and use a marker to draw football laces. Use straws and/or skewers for goal posts. You will definitely score a touchdown with this idea!

* Easy as 1-2-3. Serve the wraps on colorful plates (maybe your favorite team’s colors?!) and finish off with a scoop of potato salad… you’re done! Use a clothespin to stand up each person’s name card.
