Soul Food

We all know how easy it is to get caught up in the stress of everyday life. It is absolutely CRUCIAL to take care of yourself and make some “me” time in order to avoid running yourself into the ground. With Julia Roberts releasing her stress in Eat Pray Love in mid August, we are super inspired to do some soul searching ourselves. You can join us on our journey by getting chummy with your soul again and hosting a “wellness day party!” This can take place anywhere – a home, a park, a studio, etc., as long as you’ve got your best buds and some comfortable clothing.

Here are some tips on how to escape this crazy place we call the real world and breathe for a day. Gather your pals and focus on 5 points:

* Mind – Without calming your mind, there’s really no hope for calming anything. Begin with a 30 minute meditation exercise. There are plenty of meditation tapes out there and you probably have a few faves but we recommend Deepak Chopra’s “Gift of Love II: Oceans of Ecstasy.” If you’re not into meditation through music and voice then go with nature sounds.

* Body – After you have centered yourself and eliminated all anxious thoughts, focus on your body.  Keep the meditation music on (or not), take out your mat, and release your tension through some basic yoga. Stretching allows you to feel the stress leave your body.

* Soul –  Two words: soul food. Once you are stress and tension free, indulge yourself in some healthy treats. Try making these peanut butter balls. They are jam-packed with loads of healthy ingredients and taste mighty good. Pair these with a nice cool treat like acai-banana sorbet.

* Beauty – Give your skin some soul food too and grab an organic face mask at your local “organic” market, such as Whole Foods. If you’re feeling ambitious, have a specialist come in. We are big fans of Calibella Organic Makeup Boutique. Feeling good about yourself is an excellent way to boost endorphins.

* Heart – when the day is over and you’re feeling all warm and fuzzy, place a designated basket out for each person at the party. Have everyone anonymously write an affirmation about each person and place it into his or her respective baskets. There’s nothing like hearing positive feedback from friends.

  1. Hi Marley,

Great tips on taking care of ourselves- something I always instill in my clients.

I wanted to share this wonderful quote I read.

When you have the strength to put yourself first it ensures that everyone in your life has someone they can count on.

    Helen.
