How To Throw An Awesome Holiday Office Party With WeWork!
It’s that time of the year again! So you’ve devoured the turkey, you’re dreading those deadlines and you’re anticipating the most torturous day of season- the holiday office party. We totally get it. But what if this year’s holiday party is actually… fun?
Our friends down at WeWork asked us and other event planners a few questions on how to throw an office party without the agony.
WeWork is a blog that caters to entrepreneurs, freelancers and startups by giving them advice on how to successfully run their business.
So, where do we start?
1. Time
Our fab little goddess suggested that maybe December isn’t the best time for your office to have a party.”If December is your busiest time of the year, maybe do something the first week of January so it’s truly a celebration and everyone can let their hair down.” Also, be cautious on the day of the week you choose. Especially if there’s booze involved.
2. Theme
As you know, here at TPG! we DO NOT take themes lightly. Tabitha Roberts, owner of Roberts & Co. Events feels the same way. She suggested having a menu that embodies the theme and gave the example of an “Oktoberfest Party” including a pretzel with specialty dips station. (WHAT?! Did someone say dip?!)
3. Trends
First things first, ditch the trust building games. Lately we’ve seen a lot of food trucks, puppy therapy sessions, and of course, the raffles. But lets change things up a bit, how about we make employees really unwind and feel special? How about… a SPA DAY?! Another activity suggested by Liron David, founder and senior event producer of Eventique New York recommends having “interactive food stations with creative cocktails and alchemists at the bar.” Um, YUM!!!
4. Socializing
You’ve already dodged those awkward conversations during Thanksgiving and you definitely don’t want to have them during the office party. Rachel Wong of WeWork CaterCow, suggests having a build your own mini cake station or waffle bar. “They are something to get people up and mingling and give them something to talk about.” You couldn’t have said it better Rachel, you had us at “waffle.”
5. Make it fun!
Now that you’ve ditched the trust building exercises (because lets be honest, the point is to NOT work… right?), creator director of CBD Meetings & Events Ivy K. Pendleton proposes human chess, Simon Says, or Family Feud.
