2011 Wedding Trends

Weddings in 2011 will bring about lots of fun, new ideas while keeping older traditions intact.  Think traditional with a sexy, personal flare!

Let’s Get Personal

While old traditions are still holding true, we will be seeing more and more personal touches of the bride and groom. The wedding will be all about them without so much pressure on keeping it traditional. For example, the wedding cake will still be the focal point of a reception, but it might be smaller with other supporting desserts. If the groom loves doughnuts, have a doughnut maker as the main dessert.  Other fun dessert ideas include candy bars, cotton candy, and cupcakes.

Brighten Up

It looks like bright colors are bringing a cheery edge. While brides are still in love with traditional white as the staple color, we will be seeing brighter accents and color stories. Picture a crisp white dress with sapphire or fuchsia accents!

Get Cultured

Another part of the personalization aspect will include influences from different cultures. The couple might be American, but have an Asian influenced décor component because they met in Asia. Macaroons can act as a supporting dessert if they share a love of Paris. Regardless if the bride and groom actually are of a different culture, internationalization is becoming hot!

Go Virtual

With social media being one of the easiest and most used ways of communicating, wedding websites are becoming all the rage. Couples register on a wedding site and write about how they met, talk about who is in their wedding party, post pictures, and provide necessary details such as where the wedding is taking place and where they are registered.

One Size Doesn’t Fit All

People will be mixing it up by having different table sizes and shapes. This allows for a variety of different looks and may help the flow of people in a space.

Give the Gift of Comfort

Brides are starting to give their bridesmaids matching flip-flops to wear at the reception. This allows the girls to kick off their heels and dance the night away comfortably!

Put it On Paper

Paper products such as invitations, printed menus, place cards, etc. are continuing to be a significant expense and creative component of a wedding. There are tons of creative options for paper products and they provide plenty of opportunities for personalization by using various monograms and designs.

More Sources of Influence

With people getting married at a later age and with the state of the economy, more people are contributing to the expenses of a wedding.  Money is no longer only coming out of daddy’s pocket. These added contributions are showing up in the ceremony and reception.

Vintage Never Goes Out of Style

Those planning a wedding may want to head up to their attic and pull out their family heirlooms. Vintage items will be a great accessory to any 2011 wedding whether used for décor or fashion. An old family photo on a napkin ring is a perfect way to tie back to tradition.
