What are you doing New Year’s Eve?

The age-old question is yet again relevant as we watch endless “countdown lists” of 2010 shenanigans in anticipation for Friday at midnight. If you are the hostess with mostess come Friday night, here are a few of our favorite things:

*Serving abundant appetizers and dessert while skipping dinner: This allows you to indulge in your appetizers, while having a stress free night. Producing a full fledge dinner for 6 is panic inducing as opposed to sending out blue cheese drizzled with rosemary honey, or bacon wrapped dates stuffed with goat cheese. This relaxed atmosphere also allows your guests to mingle long into the night.

*Champagne at midnight. Yes, it’s a pain to open up those bottles, but its well worth it once that ball drops and you hear clinking glasses and well wishes.

*Theme: New Year’s has a built in theme— a world wide party. But how do you decorate for that? Glitter? We suggest choosing a rich color to use throughout the night, whether it be magenta or ox blood red, something sumptuous will set the mood to ring in 2011.

*Resolutions as entertainment: ask your guests to bring their top ten resolutions and an hour before midnight, have them read them aloud. While some may be poignant, others will be hilarious, and all will gave you great insight about your guests.
