* The Emmy statuette was designed to depict a winged woman holding an atom, which has since become the symbol of the TV Academies’ goal of supporting and uplifting the art and science of television: The wings represent the muse of art; the atom the electron of science.

* The record for the longest Emmy telecast in history was set in 1987, by a broadcast that lasted nearly four hours. Viewers can only hope there won’t be a repeat.

* The Inaugural Screen Actors Guild Awards aired live on NBC from Stage 12, Universal Studios, on February 25, 1995. Present that evening were some of the most talented actors in the world, including Tom Hanks, John Travolta, Jessica Lange, Morgan Freeman, Susan Sarandon, Helen Hunt and hundreds more.

* In 1959, there were 22 Grammy awards, now there are 110.
